Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Previous editions: Hazenbos 2003: 107-109.

For this fragment an indirect join with KUB 57.108+ has been proposed (Lorenz and Rieken 2007: 470), but see the discussion in the introduction to KUB 57.108+. For the listing of units of NAM.RA-transportees, with mention of royal measures as well, see also KBo 12.53 + KUB 48.105.

obv. 2′: The tentative restoration of the GN Ḫatkara has been kindly suggested by A. Kryszeń, based on the possibility that this tablet may belong to the cluster of Katapa or even Šapinuwa (Ḫatkara is known to be close to Katapa from HT 2).

obv. 5′: For the restoration cf. e.g. KUB 57.108+ obv. ii 4′ and passim.

obv. 8′: For the GN cf. Akkanḫila, Muranḫila, Ḫarpanḫila, Ḫaršanḫila, Kalpašanaḫila, Paršananḫila, Partanḫila, and SIG4-anḫila. Note that the mountains Akkanḫila and Muranḫila are treated in KBo 62.5 as well, which pertains to the same geographical area as HT 4 and KUB 57.108 (Lorenz and Rieken 2007: 470).

obv. 9′: Reference to the fabrication of cult statuettes? Cf. also obv. 12′-13′.

obv. 12′: Cf. KUB 42.105+, where the same three toponyms occur: Zilalimuna, Taškuriya, and Zitḫara (kindly suggested by A. Kryszeń).

obv. 13′: The verb peda- “to bring” seems to be used here in a figurate sense, for which see the discussion in Cammarosano 2018: 44-45.

obv. 18′, 20′: For animals performing the TUKUL-service, see Beal 1988: 288 §35.

obv. 19′: The numeral looks like 7 based on the copy, but one expects 5. Further one, the expected ME is written in the copy with two verticals.
